Thursday 09/01/2025

The first meeting for 2025 started with the welcome address by the president. The program commenced with Hindu devotional song by Mr. Sathiyaseelan and Christian devotional song by Mr. Rodrigo. Mr. Mahalingam presented and delighted the audience with several “Tamil Pannisai” songs for one hour with Karaoke music followed by devotional songs by Mrs. Keetha Ratnaseelan and Mrs. Vasuki Mahadevan. Mr. Panchadcharam and Mr. Ravichandran spoke remembering Mr. Mathanagopalan in whose memory Mrs. Mathanagopalan sponsored the Fellowship Lunch. Days program concluded with a vote of thanks by the President.

Thursday, January 16, 2025 – Thai Pongal Celebration

Thai Pongal Celebration kicked off with a warm welcome speech by President Mr. A. Perumynar. Dr. Sivarathy Ketheeswaran delivered a captivating musical performance on the theme of Pongal, featuring songs composed by Dr. Bharathy. Following the performance, Mr. Thirunanthakumar gave an insightful talk on the topic “தமிழர் திருநாள் பொங்கல்,” which was highly appreciated by the audience. The event’s lunch was generously sponsored by TSCA, and the event concluded with a vote of thanks by Secretary Mr. Karunasaladeva.

Thursday, January 23, 2025 – Isai Arangam

The Isai Arangam event began with a warm welcome speech by President Mr. A. Perumynar. Thursday, 30th January 2025 – Member’s Day

On Member’s Day, our President, Mr. A. Perumynar, delivered a warm welcome speech to kick off the event. The highlight of the day was a workshop titled “I AM DIGITALLY SAVVY,” led by Mr. Jagvir Singh from Lead Connect. Members gained valuable insights into using smartphones and tablets, with a focus on online safety, including protecting themselves from scams, spam, and online predators. The session also covered how to identify common online threats and ways to safeguard personal information. The event was made even more special with a generous lunch sponsorship from LEAD CONNECT Ltd. To close the day, our Secretary, Mr. Karunasaladeva, expressed heartfelt thanks to all attendees and speakers for their contributions.

Thursday, 6th February 2025 – Isai Arangam

The Isai Arangam event began with a warm welcome speech by President Mr. A. Perumynar. Twenty talented members participated, each performing a song of their choice, which was met with great appreciation from the audience. The performances were truly outstanding. Thursday, 13th February 2025 – Musical Gala Event

The Musical Gala kicked off with a warm and welcoming speech by Vice President Mr. K. Ratnakumar, setting the tone for a morning filled with fantastic performances. The event’s highlight was Mr. Thanikairajan’s outstanding performance, where he captivated the audience with a series of karaoke songs for an hour, receiving great appreciation from all who attended.

Next, our esteemed committee members, Mr. Piraphakaran and Mr. Chandrapavan, took the stage to present கதையும் கானமும் (Stories and Songs), showcasing their talent and creativity. The performances were truly remarkable and left a lasting impression.

We also express our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Vasuki Mahadevan, Mr. Mannikkarajah, and Dr. Ganeshalingam for their generous sponsorship of the event’s lunch. Their support made the event even more memorable.

Thursday, 20th February 2025 – Workshop from Lead Connect

Our President, Mr. A. Perumynar, opened the event with a warm and welcoming speech, setting the tone for a productive day. The highlight of the event was a workshop titled Safety Help Information, Engagement Learning Defence (SHIELD), led by Mrs. Giothini Sivarasa and Ms. Neelam from Lead Connect. During this informative session, members gained valuable insights into cybercrime, scam emails, and scam telephone calls. Additionally, the workshop covered essential topics such as creating strong and unique passwords and passphrases to enhance online security.

The event was further enriched by a generous lunch sponsorship from LEAD CONNECT Ltd., for which we are truly grateful.

Towards the end of the session, officers from Strathfield Council — Bharvi, Garry, and Loran — introduced themselves to the attendees, fostering a sense of connection within the community.

Thursday, 27th February 2025  Member’s Day

On Member’s Day, our President, Mr. A. Perumynar, delivered a welcome speech to kick off the event. The highlight of the day was a presentation on “Ayurvedic Medicine” by Dr. Naveen Shukla, B.Sc, B.A.M.S., an esteemed member of the Complementary Medicine Association of Australia. To close the day, our President expressed heartfelt thanks to all attendees and speakers for their contributions. The event’s lunch was generously sponsored by Mrs. Padma Thangarasa, Mr. & Mrs. Thirunavukkarasu, and Mr. Santhirasegaram.

Thursday, 6th March 2025 – Annual Sports Meet

The Annual Sports Meet was held at Airey Park, where we had surprise visitors: Ms. Sally Sitou MP and former Strathfield Councillor Maryanne. The events included the 50m race for men, the book balancing race for men, the lime & spoon race for women, the 25m race for women, the musical chairs competition, and a relay race. A special event was the 25m race/walking race for participants over 80 years old. Lunch was provided for all attendees.

Sunday, 9th March 2025 – Grandchildren’s Day

Grandchildren’s Day was celebrated at Carrington Church Hall, with President Mr. Perumynar presiding over the event. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Jason Li, Member of Parliament for Strathfield, who also gave a thoughtful talk during the event. The event was expertly hosted by Akshayan Jeyaganesh and Pragati Jeyakanthan, who served as the Master of Ceremonies. Many grandchildren participated and performed, showcasing their talents.

Past Presidents, Mr. Suntharalingam and Mr. Sivathondan, graciously distributed certificates of appreciation and gifts to the grandchildren who participated in the event. The day concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks from President Mr. Perumynar.

Thursday, 27th March 2025 – Annual cricket match and Prize Giving

We formed two teams and played a cricket match, which over 50 members watched. Unfortunately, rain interrupted the game, and it had to be abandoned. Later, we held the prize-giving ceremony. The entire tournament, both indoor and outdoor, ran for nearly six months with several participants. The prize-giving ceremony was graced by the chief guest, Dr. Bala. The President, Mr. Perumynar, gave a welcome speech at the start of the ceremony, and the Sports Secretary, Mr. Shunmugan, delivered the vote of thanks.

Thursday, 3rd April 2025 – Rescheduled Cricket Match and Isai Arangam

After last week’s cricket match was abandoned, it was replayed today with almost the same team. The Secretariat Team emerged victorious in the match.

Following the cricket game, the Isai Arangam event took place. The event began with a warm and welcoming speech by President Mr. A. Perumynar. Several talented members participated, performing songs of their choice, while one individual showcased his comedy skills, which was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience. The performances were truly outstanding.

Thursday, 10th April 2025 – Arts & Crafts Day

A few members engaged in friendly conversations and indoor games, while many others attended the Chariot Festival at the Sydney Murugan Temple.

Thursday, 17th April 2025 – Tamil New Year Celebrations

Mrs. Kanagambikai Jeganathan beautifully rendered a few Carnatic songs, captivating the audience. This was followed by an engaging talk on Tamil New Year celebrations by Mr. Poopalaretnam, which was warmly appreciated by all. We were also delighted by a surprise visit from Dr. Sokkalingam Ilakkuvanaar from New Zealand, who shared a few thoughtful words with the gathering. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by our President, Mr. A. Perumynar.

Thursday, 24th April 2025 – Easter Celebrations

The Easter celebrations commenced with a warm welcome speech by the President, Mr. A. Perumynar. This was followed by an opening prayer led by Rev. John Jegasothy.

The choir group then sang Arathanai, setting a spiritual tone for the event. Dr. Paul Gratien did the first Bible reading, after which everyone joined in singing On a Hill Far Away. The next Bible reading was given by Mrs. Malar Duraisamy, followed by the congregational hymn Sothiram Yesu Natha. Mr. R. Manickaraja delivered the final Bible reading, after which the choir group performed Uyirthelunthar.

Rev. John Jegasothy then offered the benediction, and all joined in singing the Doxology. The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Nithi Sivathondan.

The celebrations were formally concluded by the President, Mr. A. Perumynar.

Thursday, 8th May 2025 – Iyal Arangam

The Iyal Arangam event commenced with a warm welcome address by our President, Mr. A. Perumynar.

We had the valuable opportunity to hear from a panel of doctors during the meeting, thanks to the support of the WiHN team. Dr. Vani Arjunamani introduced the three guest speakers, who each gave informative talks focused on seniors’ health.

Dr. Neeta Menon delivered an insightful presentation on dementia, Dr. Radha Govind shared important information on eye health and the prevention of blindness, and Dr. (Mrs.) Sivarathy Ketheswaran provided a helpful talk on the Brighter Smile program.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by our treasurer Mr. S. Devendra, bringing the session to a thoughtful close.

The Iyal Arangam event commenced with a warm welcome address by our President, Mr. A. Perumynar. A distinguished speaker from Sri Lanka, Senchotselvar Dr. Aaruthirumugan, delivered an insightful and thought-provoking speech on ‘அனுபவ ஞானம்‘ (Experiential Wisdom). His articulate presentation, rich with personal insights and practical reflections, deeply resonated with the audience. Attendees were highly engaged throughout the session, and many expressed their appreciation for the clarity, depth, and relevance of his message. Thursday, 22nd May 2025 – Iyal Arangam – பாட்டுக்கு பாட்டு

The பாட்டுக்கு பாட்டு event commenced with a warm welcome address by our President, Mr. A. Perumynar.

The programme began with an இன்னிசை விருந்து (musical treat) by Mr. Navaratnam Raguram and his talented team. This was followed by a delightful segment titled பாட்டுக்கு பாட்டு (Song for a Song), conducted by Mr. Raguram.

Twelve participants took part in this engaging musical competition, divided into two teams. Points were awarded based on the accurate and timely rendition of songs, according to the competition rules. The winning team was awarded a gift in recognition of their performance.

The event concluded on a gracious note with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by the Secretary, Mr. C. Karunasaladeva.

Thursday, 29th May 2025 – Iyal Arangam – Women’s Day Celebration

The Women’s Day event commenced with a warm welcome address by President Mr. A. Perumynar.

The celebration was entirely organized and performed by the female members, highlighting their talent and dedication.

The Chief Guest, Mrs. Soundary Ganesan, delivered an inspiring speech to mark the occasion. This was followed by இசையும் கதையும், a musical storytelling performance by Mrs. Saro Sundaralingam, Mrs. Susee Ganeshalingam, and Mrs. Lalitha Devendra.

Mrs. Sooriyakala then gave a thought-provoking speech on பாரதி கண்ட மங்கையர் (The Women Seen by Bharathi). Adding a poetic flair to the event, Mrs. Kanagambikai Jeganathan recited a Women’s Day poem titled அம்மா, which brought a special emotional touch to the programme.

A humorous and engaging drama titled சிட்னி விமான நிலையத்தில் கலாட்டா (Commotion at Sydney Airport) was staged, directed by Mrs. Revathy Karunakaran, much to the delight of the audience.The cast included Mrs. Niranyani Naguleswaran, Mrs. Nirmal Selvanathan, Mrs. Lalitha Devendra, Mrs. Gayathri Raviraj, Dr. Nithi Sivathondan, Mrs. Sooriyakala Sathiyasinkan, and Mrs. Kamala Sivagnanarajasingam.

The celebration concluded with vibrant dance performances by Mrs. Sarojini Nalanthuwan and Mrs. Sooriyakala Sathiyasinkan. The Chief Guest, Mrs. Soundary Ganesan, delivered a நயப்புரை (appreciation address), followed by a heartfelt vote of thanks from Mrs. Saro Sundaralingam.

The Isai Arangam event began with a warm welcome address by President Mr. A. Perumynar. Several talented members took part, each performing a song of their choice, all of which were received with enthusiastic applause from the audience. The performances were truly outstanding and showcased the musical talents within our community.

A delicious lunch was generously sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Mahalingam, in honour of what was to be the celebration of their 60th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, due to the recent passing of Mr. Mahalingam’s brother in Sri Lanka, he was unable to attend the event.

Thursday, 12th June 2025 – Iyal Arangam (இயல் அரங்கம்)

The event began with a warm welcome address by our President, Mr. A. Perumynar. This was followed by Dr. K. Nadanachandran’s insightful presentation on Peripheral Nerve Compression Affecting Senior Citizens.
Next, Dr. Chitra Harinesan spoke about aged care services and the Unifund Project, to which we are contributing $1,200 every year.
The event concluded on a gracious note with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by our Secretary, Mr. C. Karunasaladeva.

Thursday, 19th June 2025 – Innisai Virunthu (இன்னிசை விருந்து)

The Innisai Virunthu ( Video clips from Tamil Movies) commenced with a warm welcome address by our President, Mr. A. Perumynar.

We had the valuable opportunity to watch a video presentation compiled by Dr. Ganesh Ganeshalingham on “Thirumalum Thirai Issaiyum” (திருமாலும் திரை இசையும்).

His talk was simple, informative, and filled with valuable insights, which the audience thoroughly enjoyed. Arts & Crafts Day – After a brief hiatus, the Arts & Crafts sessions resumed with great enthusiasm. Many ladies actively participated in the activities, while others engaged in lively conversations and enjoyed indoor games.

This day held special significance as it coincided with Aadi Pirappu (ஆடிப்பிறப் பு), an important observance for Hindus. Traditional dishes such as Kolikaddai and Kool were served to mark the occasion.

Informative talks on the significance of Aadi Pirappu were delivered by Mrs. Puvana Purushothamar and Mr. P. Panchadcharam. Additionally, Mrs. Puvana Purushothamar gave a demonstration on making an eggless cake.

The event began with a warm welcome address by our President, Mr. A. Perumynar. Solo singer Mr. Thirunavukarasu then performed several Palsuvai Paadalgal (பல்சுவை பாடல்கள்). This was followed by speakers from Services Australia, who gave a PowerPoint presentation on scam awareness for our community. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by our Secretary, Mr. C. Karunasaladeva.

Men’s Day Celebrations: The President delivered his speech to officially kick off the Men’s Day celebrations.

The first program was a comedy drama performed by Mr. Sathiyamoorthy, Mr. Naguleswaran , and Mr. Santhirasegaram. This was followed by Issaiyum Kathaiyum (இசையும் கதையும்), presented by Mr. Poopalaratnam and Mr. Thirunavukarasu. Next, Mr. Mahlingam gave a solo dance performance to a popular Tamil movie song.

Dr. A. Ganeshalingam then entertained the audience with two songs.

Three actors, Mr. P. Elango, Mr. F. Rodrigo and Mr. S. Devendra then took the stage for a musical drama based on Arichandra Mayana Kandam (அரிச்சந்திர மயான காண்டம்). After that, Mr. Sivasooriyar gave a solo keyboard performance, playing two songs.

To the audience’s great amusement, a “fake dance guru” and his disciple ( Mr. Mohankumar and Mr. Sanmugan) performed a comedic dance act to three songs, drawing big laughter.

The closing speech was delivered by the chief guest, Dr. A. Kantharajah, followed by the vote of thanks from Mr. S. Devendra and Secretary Mr. C. Karunasaladeva.

Thursday, 7th August 2025 – Issai Arangam இசை அரங்கம்

The day’s program, Issai Arangam, began with a warm welcome address delivered by the President.

Over twenty of our members took to the stage, performing a variety of popular and cinematic songs. Their performances evoked nostalgic memories for many in the audience, taking them back to their youth, and were met with great appreciation and applause.

A particularly touching moment came when one of our members, despite the challenges of having suffered a stroke and living with dementia, completed his performance to a heartfelt standing ovation from the audience. This inspiring moment truly became the highlight of the day.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Treasurer Mr. Devendra, followed by a joyful ‘Fellowship Lunch’ that brought everyone together in celebration. TSCA sponsored the lunch.

Thursday, 14th August 2025

Today’s event began with a warm welcome address by our President, Mr. A.Perumynar. Dr. A. Ganeshalingam delivered a highly informative presentation on the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), explaining how it works and providing clear instructions on its use during a cardiac arrest. This was followed by an emergency response video and practical demonstrations.

Later, staff from Live Well gave a presentation on the support services available at home, including My Aged Care and Home Care Packages.

The session prompted great interest from the audience, with many questions raised regarding the benefits of a Home Care Package, as well as details about personal care and domestic support services.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by our Secretary, Mr. C. Karunasaladeva. Lunch was kindly sponsored by Live Well Jesmond Nursing Home, and we extend our sincere thanks for their generous support.

The event began with a warm welcome address by our President, Mr. A. Perumynar. Representatives from Services Australia (Mrs. Gowri Tahir, Mr. Julian Jeyakumar, and Ms. Harpreet) delivered an informative talk covering topics such as Aged Care, Home Care Packages, accessing services through Centrelink, registering for My Aged Care, and finding suitable Home Care Packages.

Lunch was generously sponsored by Mr. & Mrs. Naguleswaran, Mr. S. Suntharalingam and Mrs. Kamala Sivanandarajasingam.

On Members Day, our President, Mr. A. Perumynar, delivered a warm welcome speech to open the event.
Mr. Bala Manics MSc (UNSW) gave a talk on River for Jaffna – From Kanagarayan Aru to four lagoons.

The purpose of the River for Jaffna is to transport surplus water coming into ElephanPass Lagoon and flowing to the sea via Chundikulam to Vadamaradchi East Lagoon(VEL).

This will suppress salinity entering the VEL during the dry season(Feb to Sept) from underground thereby improving the underground water quality as well as improving the surrounding land free of salinity and making it agriculturally productive.

Our President, Mr. A. Perumynar, opened the event with a warm and welcoming speech, setting the tone for the screening of the Tamil movie “Poi Mann”, presented by the Sivan Arul Foundation. Dr. Jyamohan provided a brief introduction to the film, which he produced in Australia, and officially launched the screening.

The event was further enriched by a generous lunch sponsorship from Mrs. Padmini Thava, for which we are truly grateful.

To conclude the day, our Secretary, Mr. C. Karunasaladeva, delivered heartfelt thanks to all, helping to ensure the event was a great success.

The meeting was presided over by the President, Mr. A. Perumynar. Dr. A. Ganeshalingam delivered a presentation on “Gynaecological Cancer in Elderly Women,” which was informative and insightful, focusing primarily on symptom awareness and the importance of early detection. The presentation was well received and greatly appreciated by the audience.

Lunch was generously sponsored by the TSCA Lunch Fund. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Devendra.

Thursday, 18th September 2025

This meeting, held a week before the 2025 AGM, marked the final regular gathering for the outgoing committee. The day was dedicated to gathering feedback (எடுத்துரைத்தல்) from members and distributing the Uravu magazine.

The meeting was presided over by the President, Mr. A. Perumynar. Members offered numerous suggestions aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the Association and its meetings. All feedback was carefully noted and will be forwarded to the incoming committee for consideration.

Copies of Uravu magazine were distributed to all members present, and the remaining copies were posted later that afternoon.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of TSCA was held at the Bates Street Community Centre and was attended by 82 members, meeting the required quorum. The meeting was presided over by the President.

Proceedings began with the lighting of the traditional lamp by Past Presidents of TSCA: Mr. Santhiran, Mr. Suntheralingam, Mrs. Padma Thangarajah, Mr. Sivathondan, Mr. Panchadcharam, and Mrs. Saro Suntheralingam.

The Minutes of the previous AGM, the Annual Report, and the Audited Financial Report were tabled, discussed, and duly accepted by the General Body. A new Management Committee was elected for the 2024/2025 term.

The meeting concluded with a sumptuous lunch, generously sponsored by Mr. Logenthiran, who, along with his family, was celebrating his 85th birthday.

Mr. Elango delivered the vote of thanks.

Navarathiri Celebration

The Navarathiri celebration was marked with devotion and cultural richness. Mr. Radhakrishnan conducted the Puja for the three Sakthis — Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswathi — with devotional renditions of Vinayagar Vanakkap Paadal and Aarathi Paadalgal.

Panchapuranam was sung by Mr. Bala Thiru, while Sakalakalaavalli Maalai was rendered by Mrs. Jeganthan. Mrs. Sathyasingan performed an Amman devotional song.

The Guest of Honour, Mrs. Gnana Kulendran, spoke on the significance of observing and celebrating Navarathiri. She also sang and encouraged audience participation in the devotional singing.

Mrs. Sivarathi Ketheeswaran presented an Innisai Virunthu, with a focus on Amman-themed songs.

Mr. Ponmailainathan, joined by his family, celebrated his 90th birthday on this special occasion. Lunch was generously sponsored by Mr. Ponmailainathan.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Secretary, Mr. Karunasaladeva.

Sunday, 5th October 2025 – Day Trip tp Canberra

On 5th October, a group of 50 of us departed from Homebush by coach at 8:00 AM, heading to Canberra. We arrived around noon. Our first stop was Floriade, where we spent two hours enjoying the floral displays and had lunch.

Next, we visited Parliament House and spent about an hour exploring the site. Finally, we headed to Mount Ainslie Lookout for a stunning panoramic view of Canberra.

We returned to Homebush by 8:00 PM. It was a thoroughly enjoyable trip and a wonderful bonding experience for everyone involved.

The Isai Arangam event commenced with a warm and welcoming address by the President, Mr. A. Perumynar, followed by an informative talk on the Age Pension delivered by staff from Services Australia.

Several talented members participated, each performing a song of their choice. Their performances were met with enthusiastic appreciation from the audience and were truly exceptional.

The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by the Secretary, Mr. C. Karunasaladeva.
